aPLI FE
The development of the aPLI hardware started simultaneously with finalization of the FlexPLI for assessing pedestrian safety. It was determined that the inclusion of the hip joint and the lower torso mass are crucial in the biofidelity and injuries to the pedestrian leg. The latest hardware design for the aPLI is Standard Build Level - B (SBL - B) which is currently being assessed by industry and regulatory bodies.
The aPLI represents the right lower extremity of a 50th percentile male. It incorporates a hip joint and a portion of the lower torso mass for an improved mass distribution. The segmented structures in the femur and the tibia with bones simulate the flexible nature of the human lower extremities. The aPLI is capable of measuring moments in the femur and tibia, elongations for the knee ligaments, and kinematics of the upper body mass.
Building on the vast experience gained from the FlexPLI model development and utilizing our internal model build quality standards Humanetics developed a state of the art, advanced aPLI FE model. This model accurately represents the physical hardware and is validated to certification criteria and specially developed rig tests representing different vehicle segment profiles.
A model with borderline feature is available. The borderline model produces a response with <4% error to the ‘user input’ in the two respective Inverse certification tests allowing the user to utilize a model based on physical hardware performance and explore beyond.
Humanetics offers highly detailed and validated aPLI SBL-B model in LS-DYNA Finite Element code.
