Flex-PLI FE

In 2000, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA) and the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) initiated development of the "Flexible Pedestrian Legform Impactor (Flex-PLI)".

The impactor represents a 50th percentile male leg which is struck from the right side. The Flex-PLI (Flexible Pedestrian Legform Impactor) simulates the flexible nature of the human bone. It is fired from a linear guide into the bumper of a static vehicle at 40 km/h for the assessment of pedestrian lower leg and knee injuries.

The model is validated for inverse certification using a newly developed honeycomb impactor. Friction tests were conducted for different material types and contact friction values were updated to improve model performance.

A model with borderline feature is available. The borderline model produces a response with <3% error to the ‘user input’ in the respective Inverse certification test allowing the user to use a model based on physical hardware. The borderline model is available in LS-DYNA R10.1 single-precision solver.

Humanetics offers highly detailed and validated Flex-PLI models in ANSYS LS-DYNA, PAM-CRASH, ABAQUS, and RADIOSS Finite Element codes.

    Licensing
    1. Annual License

      The model is leased for a period of one year and renewable on its anniversary of purchase. Model support and upgrades are provided during this period.

       
    2. Licensing Procedure

      Licenses are provided on a per-site basis and require the execution of a model license agreement between the customer and Humanetics. Usage of the model is limited to the site listed on the license agreement. For full terms and conditions please request a sample license agreement for your review.

       
    3. Humanetics Finite Element Dummy Model Distributors

      The Humanetics Finite Element dummy models are distributed worldwide through a network of distributors associated with the solver code and experts in the field of occupant safety simulation, who provide local customer support, training, and arrange licensing.

    Humanetics offers surfaced 3D CAD models for use in vehicle packaging studies using major common CAD systems. The models are available in IGES Format for import to CATIA, Pro/Engineer, IDEAS, Unigraphics, PDGS and other IGES compatible systems. The models are derived from the Humanetics family of finite element dummy models and 3-D dummy design geometry. CAD models are only offered as a paid-up license.
